This is the fundamental difference between religion and Christianity.  Religion is about all you do.  Christianity is about a relationship.  It’s about what God has already done in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 3:21-22 “But not God has shown us a different way of being right in His sight, not by obeying the law.  That’s rules, rituals and religion.  But by the way promised in the Scriptures long ago.  We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins and we all can be saved the same way no matter who we are or what we’ve done.”

Isn’t that a great verse?  You can be saved, no matter who you are or what you’ve done.  You accept Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross as proof of God’s love for you.  And you receive that gift of forgiveness and eternal life as a gift just because He loves you.

Jesus Came to Replace Rules with Relationship

I think you guys and girls are really going to enjoy what happens over the next couple of weeks because each weekend we’re going to have a front row seat as we observe Jesus having personal encounters with different men and women through His life.  They’re like snapshots.  We’ll use the New Testament like a photo album and we’ll look at these snapshot encounters.

Every time Jesus had an experience with somebody it was remarkable.  He never left people the same way He found them.  Quite often He would just meet these people as He was traveling so seldom would He spend more than just a few moments or part of the day.

Imagine what it would be like if you were sitting in a coffee shop at a little table for two.  The chair across the table from you is empty and then Jesus just walks in for a cup of coffee and He sees you sitting there.  So He sits down next to you.  And maybe for the next twenty minutes or two hours you and Jesus begin to have a conversation.  He starts asking you questions.  It seems like He knows all about your life.  You begin to respond to Him and then when He leaves you have some real sobering decisions to make.

Its going to be a great time to be encouraged as believers yourselves, and an even better time to invite those friends and family members you have been wanting to hear about Jesus!  Join us at NewLife every Sunday @ 10:45am!  I’ll have the coffee on!
